Join the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ), to explore what Arkansans have shared they envision for the state of recycling in The Natural State. This session will dive into the DEQ’s year-long research study collecting data on what metrics the various districts are utilizing to gauge their services’ impact, what the general public is seeking and discuss ways service providers, local, county and state governments can collaborate and more.

Don Bates
Owner/Founder – Osprey Initiatives, LLC
Don Bates is the owner/founder of Osprey Initiative, LLC and the inventor of the Litter Gitter. A graduate of Millsaps College, he has over 25 years of experience in the environmental consulting business. Born in Hammond, Louisiana, he grew up in the swamps around Manchac, Louisiana. He has spent most of his life in and around waterways and has a passion for maintaining and improving our natural resources. He feels that the best legacy he can leave to future generations is access to wild places unmarred by human impacts.

Kirk Kreisel
CEO – Artisun Solar
Kirk is the founder of Artisun Solar and has over 30 years of leadership experience in energy and engineering.
A former U.S. Navy officer and nuclear engineer who served aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, Kirk launched Artisun in 2011 to empower businesses to take control of their energy future through solar power.
Under his leadership, Artisun has grown into one of the Midwest’s top commercial solar companies, completing more than 65 megawatts of solar across 850 projects for agricultural, industrial, and commercial clients.
Kirk’s background in high-stakes, technical environments shapes his practical approach to energy.
